Pips Comedy Club Brooklyn

Pips Comedy Club Brooklyn was a legendary stand-up comedy venue located in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. For decades, it played an important role in comedy history. As a result, many performers appeared here long before becoming famous. Because of this, Pips became known as a true proving ground for rising talent.

In 1962, the club was founded by George Shultz. From the start, it was named after the Dickens character Pip. At the same time, Pips focused on raw and authentic comedy. Because of this, audiences experienced performances that felt personal and unfiltered.

Over time, George’s sons helped run the club. In particular, Marty Shultz (1955–2013) took on a major role in management. Later on, his brother Seth Shultz also became involved. Together, they kept Pips closely tied to the Brooklyn community. Eventually, Marty moved on to become a casino host. However, Pips remained central to his legacy.

In 2005, the club was purchased by Joseph Vincent Gay. Shortly after, Pips Comedy Club closed its doors. Even so, its influence did not disappear. Instead, its impact continued through the comedians who launched their careers on its stage.
