He came to America from Torella dei Lombardi in Campania, Italy. Working hard to give a great life to his family. He started making his famous spumoni in a basement on West 8th Street in Brooklyn. Ludovico would experiment with the ingredients until he crafted his unique recipe.
Then, loading up his horse carriage. He would ride up and down the blocks. Selling his spumoni for 3 cents a cup to the delight of the locals. When he saw an empty lot on 86th Street, he knew that’s where his shop would be.
In the mid 50’s it became a pizzeria. Famous for the sauce on top and cheese on the bottom. The ingredients were perfected to the iconic taste that we all love. The restaurant side of L&B is just as amazing. Huge portions and world class quality.
The service is the best of the best. It’s a place to get away from the world. To go back to a time when all was good. L&B Spumoni Garden is the perfect storm with amazing food. Started by a great man and still proudly family owned and operated.
I am honored to make this special memento. Creating the miniature model master design took months, several revisions (and lots of prayers) as I captured the spirit of the place. The mini tables were not in the original design. One day I said to myself that the tables would be the cherry on the top. It’s those tables we sat on and made memories growing up year after year. The miniature model can be seen in the restaurant portion of L&B. Copies available for family, friends and these who love L&B.
