A Legendary Brooklyn Wedding Hall Preserved in Miniature
Rex Manor was one of Brooklyn’s most beloved wedding halls and banquet restaurants. For generations, families gathered inside its doors to celebrate weddings, birthdays, Sweet 16s, anniversaries, and important milestones. Today, this legendary venue lives on again through this detailed miniature replica.
This piece was created to honor the long history, family ownership, and lasting emotional connection that Rex Manor held within the Brooklyn community.
The History of Rex Manor in Brooklyn
Rex Manor first opened in 1954 when Italian immigrant Carmine Bartiromo and his cousin Louis founded the business. Carmine traveled to Brooklyn aboard a ship named the Rex, which inspired the venue’s name.
From the beginning, Rex Manor operated as a family business. Journalist and author Maria Bartiromo, Carmine’s granddaughter, even worked there while growing up. Over the years, the manor became a trusted gathering place known for great food, elegant events, and warm hospitality.
A Family Legacy That Spanned Decades
In 1984, John Kafkalas became the owner of Rex Manor. He ran the venue for 35 years, guiding it with care until it closed in 2019. John personally handled anything that needed attention, always working to preserve the traditions and reputation that guests had come to love.
Co-owners Chris and Steve also played an important role in keeping Rex Manor thriving. Together, they maintained the warm atmosphere, consistent quality, and family-centered spirit that defined the venue for decades.
A Place Filled With Memories
Rex Manor was not just a banquet hall. It was where families marked life’s most important moments. Guests still share stories about weddings, birthdays, Sweet 16s, and business events that took place inside its walls.
Even years after closing, people continue to speak about the food, the service, and the feeling of celebration that made Rex Manor special. Those memories remain deeply rooted in Brooklyn’s history.
