Zig Zag Records Miniature Replica – Brooklyn NY Rock Landmark

A Legendary Brooklyn Record Store Preserved in Miniature

Zig Zag Records was more than a record shop. It was a meeting place. It was a discovery zone. Most of all, it was the heartbeat of Brooklyn’s rock scene for an entire generation.

Long before social media existed, fans came here to find new music, hear insider stories, and connect with people who lived and breathed rock culture. Because of that, Zig Zag became its own universe. You didn’t just shop here. You belonged here.

Today, this iconic Brooklyn landmark lives on again — recreated in precise miniature form.

The Story Behind Zig Zag Records

Zig Zag Records first opened under the ownership of Arnie Goodman and Gary, at a time when rock music was exploding across New York City. As the scene grew, the shop quickly became known as a trusted source for rare vinyl, band merch, and concert tickets.

Eventually, Arnie Goodman went on to build a major career in music and photography. However, Zig Zag remained the foundation that helped launch his journey.

In 1986, longtime staff member Phil officially took over the store. By then, rock culture was at its peak. Because Phil had grown up inside the shop, he understood the community better than anyone. As a result, Zig Zag continued to thrive as a true rock headquarters in Brooklyn.

The store remained a cornerstone of the neighborhood until it closed its doors for good in 2011.

Why This Miniature Replica Is So Special

This is not a generic model. This is a researched historical recreation.

I spent countless hours studying old photos, speaking directly with Phil, and uncovering details that only longtime fans would recognize. Because of that, every part of this miniature tells a real story.

The replica includes:

• Restored and accurate Zig Zag storefront signage
• Authentic Metallica and W.A.S.P. L’Amour concert posters
• A recreated Iron Maiden in-store appearance flyer
• Period-correct stickers, including a Snot band decal
• The permanently boarded side window
• The closed side gate — left exactly as it was in real life

When I asked Phil why the gate always stayed closed, he laughed and said it was because neighborhood disco tough guys kept breaking the window. That story became part of the model — because real history matters.

A Piece of Brooklyn Rock History You Can Own

Zig Zag Records represented a rare time in music history — when fans met face-to-face, discovered bands organically, and formed lifelong friendships inside record stores.

Although the original shop closed in 2011, its spirit never disappeared.

Now, it lives on in this museum-quality miniature replica.

Each copy is made with care, precision, and respect for what Zig Zag meant to Brooklyn’s rock community. This piece is perfect for collectors, music fans, and anyone who wants to preserve the soul of NYC rock culture.
