Astroman – The Lost Giant of Astroland | Limited Collector’s Edition

A Museum-Quality Miniature of Coney Island’s Most Iconic Giant

Astroman with adoring female tourists.

For generations, Astroman stood proudly at the entrance to Astroland in Coney Island. There, he welcomed millions of visitors to one of America’s most beloved amusement parks. Towering nearly 20 feet above the boardwalk, the giant fiberglass figure became one of Brooklyn’s most photographed landmarks. However, sometime during the 1970s, he mysteriously disappeared. Today, no one knows what became of him.

Now, after years of research, Astroman returns as an extraordinary handcrafted collectible by Major Minis.

This is far more than a miniature statue. Instead, it faithfully recreates the entrance scene that countless families remember from the golden age of Astroland.

Researched Down to the Smallest Detail

Creating this Astroman miniature became one of the most extensive research projects I have ever undertaken.

First, I studied hundreds of historic photographs to document the different versions of Astroman throughout his life. Next, I researched the original International Fiberglass Company that manufactured the famous roadside giants, often known today as Muffler Men. Then, I carefully recreated the details that made Astroland’s version unique.

To ensure complete historical accuracy, I also visited the exact location where Astroman once stood.

Using historic photographs, the Wonder Wheel, the Cyclone, surviving buildings, and even the original cracks in the concrete, I located his precise position at the entrance to Astroland.

Standing there was an unforgettable experience.

The Hidden Connection to the 1964 New York World’s Fair

One discovery made this project even more special.

Although the original World’s Fair light had been removed decades ago, its sawed-off foundation still remains embedded in the concrete today.

Because of that discovery, I accurately recreated the famous 1964 New York World’s Fair luminaire that once stood beside Astroman.

1964 World's Fair Light 5-C-B-E

The miniature includes an accurate reproduction of the original Sternberg 5-C-B-E luminaire configuration, complete with its colorful translucent cube design. Originally, these lights illuminated the New York World’s Fair. Later, Astroland gave them a second life.
